GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provide expert technical support and project management of projects undertaken by NSS for our clients in the area of fitness for service of power plant components, e.g., piping and pressure boundary components. This position reports directly to the Section Manager of the Component Analysis Section but is expected to work closely with other senior staff including the Director of Operations Engineering to continue to expand the business.
In particular, to provide expertise in:
Advanced analysis to determine component fitness for service
Analytical and program support for feeder stress analysis
Development of new fitness for service methodologies and standards.
Development and verification of fitness for service software and tools.
The successful candidate will be recognized both within NSS, and by clients and the external industry, for a high level of technical expertise.
SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:
To perform analytical and other engineering work and to provide direction to others in the following areas:
Develop new methodologies and concepts.
Participate in the development of new business
Provide high level expertise to projects across NSS as applicable.
Support the Section Manager & Director in the area of the industry effort to manage piping and pressure vessel degradation, particularly feeders.
Manage technically challenging projects & that may also require giving guidance to less experienced/junior staff.
Participate in external committees and working groups, as applicable.
Provide direction to R&D and generic programs.
Provide expert level review of the work of others.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Stress analysis both classical and FEM at an expert level
Fatigue, seismic and water hammer analysis at an expert level
Detailed level knowledge of applicable ASME codes and other codes as required to support analysis work.
Thorough understanding of power plant design with respect to piping, pressure vessels and reactor structure and good understanding of power plant operation.
Good understanding of applicable regulatory requirements for both CANDU and fossil power plants.
Good understanding of NSS Quality Assurance requirements.
Excellent problem solving skills.
Excellent ability to work effectively with team members and clients on major projects.
Demonstrated experience in leading major technical projects to successful conclusions.
Good communication skills . oral and written.
Experienced in making presentations to clients.
Demonstrated commitment to delivering results on time and budget, to required quality.
The successful candidate will be recognized by his/her clients for professionalism and superior performance, and by peers for knowledge, expertise and ability to communicate complicated information in an understandable way.
Only candidates who believe they currently meet the MP5 selection criteria (available on request) which include knowledge and skill requirements, should apply. A P.Eng designation is a must.
The knowledge and skills required would normally be acquired through the successful completion of advanced university degree(s) in appropriate field(s) and a period of typically 15 plus years or more of relevant experience.
