Nuclear Safety Solutions is the fastest growing engineering and nuclear safety analysis company in Canada, providing specialized services primarily to the power generation industry. Located in downtown Toronto, NSS has a staff of approximately 400 engineers and scientists, who provide technical solutions to numerous clients world wide. NSS is a member of the AMEC global family, which designs, delivers and supports infrastructure development, from technical services to international landmark projects, with a staff of over 20,000 in offices all around the world.

 

We are looking for people with considerable experience in civil and structural engineering to join our Engineering team. To fill this position you are required to have a sound foundation in civil design, structural analysis modeling and with substantial experience in applications to operating nuclear and other industrial plants. The level of the appointment will be based upon the knowledge and experience of the candidate.

 

Specific Accountabilities

 

To deliver civil engineering expertise to power generation utilities and other customers. The specific accountabilities of the position are as follows:

 
  • Provide civil design for various types of structures : steel, concrete.
  • Perform condition assessments of structures
  • Develop life cycle plans, including inspection and test programs
  • Perform seismic analyses of structures
  • Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate means of solution.
  • Manage projects and act as design team lead where appropriate.
  • Interface effectively with other staff on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Stay current with developments within your field of expertise.
     

    Skills/Knowledge Required

     

    The following skills/knowledge are required:

     
  • Proven track record in civil and structural design, including application to nuclear plants
  • In depth knowledge and experience of use of appropriate codes and standards, as applied to nuclear plant and conventional structures.
  • Experience in project management and interfacing with and coordinating activities of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of the life cycle management of civil structures. In particular, familiarity with common degradation mechanisms and ways of identifying, tracking and ameliorating.
  • Be familiar with rigorous engineering change control processes and application of QA programs
  • Registered as a professional engineer in Ontario or be eligible
  • Have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and have demonstrated a high commitment to quality.
     

    In addition, you will be the type of person who displays strong leadership skills and is recognized by your peers and customers as a sound, practical, innovative, and helpful engineer. You will pride yourself in your ability to provide value-added solutions and to consistently deliver projects ahead of schedule and under budget. You must be able to visit client sites on a regular basis, mainly within Ontario, both for short and longer-term assignments.
